Every time a new client comes into the shop for a jewelry repair or a custom design, I ask them the following question: ''Tell me, do you have any jewelry that you no longer wear?''
Usually the answer is yes or... surely! Broken, outdated or worn jewelry, an inheritance, for example ....
It is true that we can repair and refurbish them or we can transform them and give them a second life, but when we explain to the customer our process of buying back their old jewelry, in many cases the customer prefers to sell their pieces and have the money to use at their discretion.
In the last few years gold has doubled in price and more than ever, jewelry that is sitting in the bank vault or in a drawer should be sold for its gold value, if there is no interest in the coins of course!
Gold recovery is a necessity if we consider the ecological impact of gold mining. Thus, recycling gold contributes to reducing our environmental footprint!
The trust that our clients have placed in us for over 30 years is a key factor in our approach to gold recovery. The entire evaluation process is done in front of the client, and this, free of charge and without obligation.
Thus, in a first step it is a matter of determining the purity of the gold (10-14-18K ++) of the jewel and its weight. This step is crucial because the price of the scrap (term in the industry to define used metals sold to a refinery) will be different according to the carat of the gold. To do this, we use a specific acid test that allows us to assess the purity of the metal (carat).
Once this step is completed, all the jewelry/pieces are weighed according to their purity.
At Baron Designs, we remove the stones from all jewelry, so we are able to weigh the exact weight of each piece. We will not make any approximation of the weight due to the stones on the jewelry. This kind of ''approximation'' reduces, unfortunately for you, the weight of the metal. Not to mention that those who give you the value of the price of the ''scrap'' of gold instead of removing the stones, are not better! For example, the price of a diamond is much more expensive than the price of gold. You will therefore lose by leaving the stones on your jewelry when selling for the weight of the metal.
All of these points are important and we make every effort to explain our gold buyback procedure in order to give the customer confidence.
Finally, we use the day's gold price (based on the stock market price) to give the total value of what the customer wants to sell. We give the money back to the customer or we can use some or all of the money for another piece of jewelry that will totally satisfy the customer.
