What is rhodium?

Rhodium is a precious metal, just like gold, silver, and platinum, but it is extremely rare and very expensive. In 2025, its price was almost twice that of gold, due to its rarity and limited availability. It is extracted as a byproduct during platinum mining, making its price particularly volatile.

Unlike gold or silver, it is impossible to make jewelry from pure rhodium because it is brittle and difficult to work with. However, as a plating material, it is indispensable in jewelry making.
